Growing Herbs

If you enjoy fresh herbs in your recipes, consider growing them. Depending on where you live, many herbs can be grown year round in the garden. Other herbs do well as potted plants on a windowsill in your house.

Here is a list of herbs that are easy to grow either outside in a climate with little to no frost, or in a pot:

Parsley
Oregano
Chives
Sage
Mint
Thyme
Basil is another herb that grows well in a pot. However, it can be more susceptible to climate changes, and therefore more difficult to grow in a garden.

Rosemary is a hardy bush that can tolerate some frost. It can grow larger than most indoor potted plants.

Fresh herbs can cost plenty in a store, especially during the winter. Having a herb garden, whether in the ground or in pots, is one way to pinch pennies. If you have extra, you can dry them or freeze them for later.
